Summer blockbuster films draw in crowds

College students often spend considerable summer vacation time soaking up as much sun as possible, but what happens when the weather will not cooperate and spending the day at the beach just is not an option?
With dozens of blockbuster to choose from this past summer, California Baptist University Lancers found the perfect solution to a rainy day-movies.
The one movie that stood above the rest for Erin Dalan, senior film studies major, was “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.”
“I love films that get me on the edge of my seat and wondering what is going to happen next, and this film did that,” Dalan said. “This film was filled with humor as well as excitement and action.”
Joshua Reichert, senior film major, had a different film at the top of his list.
“The No. 1 movie you absolutely cannot miss this summer is ‘Short Term 12,’” Reichert said. “The cinematography pulled viewers closer to the characters and since there was a lot of handheld (shots), we felt like we were in the film. It was brilliant!”
Both films received great reviews from critics and CBU film majors alike.
Reichert also gave honorable mentions to “The Great Gatsby” for cinematography and costume design, and “Star Trek Into Darkness” for special effects, writing and acting.
With summer behind us, it is time to start preparing for the lineup of films coming to theaters this fall.
“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and “Gravity” are the films Dalan and Reichert  said they are most excited to see this coming fall.
As each movie viewer will look for something different in a film, there is something for everyone.
Grab your popcorn and head to the theater this fall.
