California Baptist University once again rose in its ranking after being named No. 42 on the list of Regional Universities (west) by U.S. News and World Report.

With increasing student enrollment, degree options and graduate and on-campus opportunities, CBU has been climbing in the rankings.

Among being ranked as an academic university, CBU was also named “Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs” as well as being ranked No. 25 for “Best Online Bachelor’s Programs.”

Enrollment numbers are a representation of these positive rankings and changes being made to CBU.

With an increase of 1,113 students from the fall of 2012 to fall 2013, the opportunities open for students at CBU are becoming apparent to those outside the university, making CBU a competitive option in this educationally-driven generation.

According to usnews.com, “The indicators used to capture academic quality fall into a number of categories: assessment by administrators at peer institutions, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving and graduation rate performance.”

Dr. Jonathan K. Parker, provost and vice president for academic affairs, explained that he is delighted to see CBU become a regionally ranked university despite its small population and location.

“It is fantastic that we are ranked so high,” Parker said. “I think there are a number of schools in actuality that are ranked higher that we are actually ahead of in terms of programming, quality of programs offered to students and a variety of other things.”

Parker said that the high ranking is a nice addition to the appeal of the university, but the main goal he has for CBU, including the student body, is to provide a university committed to the Great Commission and a strong education opportunity.

Orlando Guevara, freshman architecture major said that hearing the achievements of the university makes him feel right for choosing CBU.

“Hearing this motivates me to do better,” Guevara said. “When I hear this, I know that I made the right choice in choosing CBU; it is a great thing.”

While the university constantly strives to reach new potential, it has proved to be a top-notch competitor than ever before.
