California Baptist University now has a free mobile application available for smartphones running Android, iOS and other platforms for students and faculty to use.
The app, called CBU Mobile, is available for download for current and prospective students, faculty and staff and everyone else in between. The app can be found in the iTunes store, Android app store and the BlackBerry App World.
CBU Mobile comes with a variety of features, including a course database, Blackboard and a section for on-campus events.
It runs the BlackBoard mobile platform, a mobile version of a resource with which most CBU students and professors are familiar.
Through the use of the app, students can check assignments, grades and make posts on Blackboard without using a computer.
Besides Blackboard, those using the app have the ability to look up current and future courses. Students can search through a complete list, finding basic information like meeting dates and time, the professor, starting date and room location.
A news app keeps an archive of CBU news articles.
Students can search for particular events on campus, with options to browse recent stories and view any multimedia attached to any article.
CBU Mobile also has a campus directory and map that makes use of GPS to guide lost students around campus. The map allows students to search for on-campus locations, with short descriptions of each area accompanying the description.
The app comes with many other functions of which both students and faculty can take advantage. An emergency feature brings up a quick list of numbers to the police, campus safety, main offices and the help and support desk.
An athletics portal is a direct link to the CBU Lancers website. Other portals include the CBU home page and an in-app feature for multimedia. Photos and videos of on-campus events posted by the school are also available for viewing.
