Every academic school year, California Baptist University elects a president for the Associated Students of CBU.

But what exactly does the ASCBU president do?

“I lead and cast vision for the entire ASCBU,” current president Alex Wright, senior Christian studies major, said. “All ASCBU sponsored events and services are critiqued by myself and then by the executive council.”

Other duties required of the president include meeting with various department heads when they seek ASCBU sponsorship for their events. He meets with them to ensure department events meet the ASCBU standards.

“I love representing students,” Wright said, “whether (it is) in meetings with administration or speaking on behalf of students at events.”

ASCBU events take six weeks to receive approval and funding. This requires the staff to plan more than a month in advance.

“The most stress comes from this factor,” Wright said. “If we plan an entire event, class meeting or sponsorship and paperwork or approval is not received, we then have to make the appropriate changes and then wait another six weeks.”

Wright said he will miss working with students to find creative solutions to problems.

Trent Ward, sophomore business major, will take the position of ASCBU president for the 2013-2014 school year.
