egaphones shouting, the smell of competition and an abundance of cheerleaders packed into a conference room set the scene for the cheerleaders as they waited to hear the results of the National Collegiate Athletics cheer and dance summer camp.
Numerous teams from all over the country, co-ed and all-girls, battled for the top spot as Gold Bid winners at the NCA summer camp held in Las Vegas.
After performing a stunt and game-day routine, CBU’s cheer team had the honor of taking home the highly coveted Gold Bid, ensuring an all-expense-paid trip to the 2014 NCA & NDA Cheer and Dance Championships located in Daytona Beach, Fla.
CBU cheer first attained the Gold Bid award in 2011.
“It felt just as if we won it the first time,” said Coyolxauhqui Plascenscia, sophomore biology major and cheer flyer. “When they announced our name, I felt a rush of great pride and accomplishment for me and the team.”
With one NCA National title under their belt, it is evident that it has made the team not only stronger but even more hungry for success.
“It’s a combination of dedication, hard work, commitment and above all a strive to be the best, whether it be on or off the mat,” said Brynn Burciaga, sophomore pre-nursing major and base. “All these goals and values will continually push us to work together.”
The Lancers topped off the weekend by bringing home the most spirited, collegiate and top gun stunts awards, and receiving first in their rally routine as well as their all-girl game day routines.
