The California Baptist University softball team has had a phenomenal 2015-2016 season so far as they find themselves ranked No. 19 in the NCAA Division II rankings.

When the beginning of April came to the John C. Funk Stadium, the Lancers hosted Dixie State University for back-to-back double headers.

These games were a big deal, as both teams are nationally ranked in the NCAA Division II. No. 4 Dixie State won the first three out of four games, but the Lancers were able to bounce back and take the last game, winning with a final score of 5-0, which gave them a big win on their schedule.

Bill Baber, head coach for the softball team, said it was nice for the team to come back during the matchup.

“It was nice to see us come back, which isn’t easy to do,” Baber said. “I’m happy with the team and proud of the way we turned it around from yesterday. We played well in the first game and then played very well in the second. This last game, we played for each other and were moving runners. We weren’t worried about batting averages.”

Being ranked in the top 25 is an accomplishment in itself, but competing and taking down other powerhouses is even better.

The Lancers then traveled out to Azusa to play against APU for a second set of double headers on April 11.

The women were able to find success again as the Lancers won the first game 1-0. They built on this victory during the next game against the Cougars, coming away with a final score of 8-1.

The Lancers now possess a 35-9 record.
