The intramural sports program at California Baptist University is hosting another season of men’s and women’s intramural flag football. The season began Sep. 21.
Carson Belmont, assistant director of recreation sports, said there will be 16 teams in the men’s division and nine teams in the women’s division. Each team will have approximately 12-16 players.
“Teams are on their own for practicing,” Belmont said. “If they want to practice, they can schedule that with their team based on availability of certain students. When they sign up, the team captain is able to put in their availability based on our schedule.”
Megan Elder, senior sociology major and captain of the Smooth Criminals intramural team, said she is excited to build friendships with the other women on her team.
“Our team has a really good dynamic and we’re all having fun,” Elder said. “I’m not sure if we’ll make it to the Fortuna Bowl, but I’m looking forward to it.”
Elder said she is also looking forward to getting to know her teammates.
“I’m excited to hang out and become friends with the other girls on the team and also be aggressive, play and do well,” Elder said.
The Fortuna Bowl, the championship game, will be Nov. 7 as part of Homecoming Weekend. Until then, teams will have to try to win the most games to get to Fortuna Bowl.
Games will be played at 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday on the Front Lawn, while some games will be played on Monday at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.
