Wrestling team makes CBU history
The California Baptist University wrestling team claimed CBU’s first RMAC title Jan. 31, at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship.
The team boasted 133.5 points, earning them the top spot and the trophy for the first time in school history.
Joe Fagiano, MBA graduate student, earned co-wrestler honors by winning the 284-pound title.
FBI takes down top child pornography site
The FBI infiltrated Playpen, a ‘TOR-accessible only’ child pornography site that went live in Aug. 2014.
The FBI took control of the live site for 13 days in order to collect data and IP addresses of users uploading and distributing the images and videos.
They were able to confirm the IP addresses of 1,300 “real” users and have charged 137 with crimes.
Trial for accused San Bernardino attack conspirator delayed until July
Enrique Marquez Jr., friend of terrorists Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, was indicted by a federal grand jury on five felony counts, including providing material support to terrorists and the illegal purchase of the two assault rifles used during the Dec. 2 attack.
The trial, which had been scheduled to begin Feb. 23, has been delayed until July 19 in Riverside federal court.
Pope asks for forgiveness for past persecutions
In keeping with his tradition of open dialogue with leaders of other major religions, on Jan. 25 Pope Francis asked God for forgiveness for the Catholic Church’s past persecutions of Protestants and other religious groups .
This spurred the Vatican to announce he would be traveling to Sweden this year to mark the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
Iowa caucus results indicate leads for Cruz and Clinton
Although the results are currently too close to call, early entrance poll data suggests that Ted Cruz and Hilary Clinton are leading front runners against the other GOP candidates.
The front runners on the Republican side indicate leads for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. Donald Trump and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio are close behind Cruz’s lead, making them the current
top three Republican candidates.
