We’ve heard it from the beginning: be kind to one another.

It wasn’t until later on in life that the phrase held a greater purpose. No longer was being kind simply the “right thing to do.” Being kind became the most important thing you could be to another person because you didn’t know what they’re going through.

These days, it seems no one can say a word without offense being taken and being kind has become one of the most important things you can be.

The wickedness the world has seen within the past few years is astonishing, heartbreaking and sickening. Kindness has been lost and the light has been severely dimmed. As Christians, we are to show Christ’s love.

Matthew 5:14 tells us we are the lights of the world. As followers of Christ, we are told that if we love the Lord, we must feed his sheep.

Many people are overshadowed by anxieties and worries, but by being kind or showing joy to someone who may not be feeling joyful themselves, attitudes have the potential for change.

It is true, we don’t know the daily internal and external battles people may be facing, but everyone has the ability to be kind. Negative attitudes makes for an unenjoyable situation. I’m not sure why so many terrible things happen in a day, but I am certain that when joy is in the mix, it is hard to be down.

I’ve been told I radiate joy throughout my life. I’ve been told that it’s hard to stay mad at me because “how can I be mad at someone who has already forgiven me?” Forgiveness and kindness go hand-in-hand. I credit my spirit to my faith completely.

I’m not saying that I’m a perfect person who is never upset with anyone or someone you can always find in the best mood of my life. Nobody is perfect. Being kind and expressing joy genuinely makes me feel good. When I’m old, I’d rather have wrinkles from smiling too much than wrinkles from frowning.

I get a lot of whys and hows in regards to my attitude, but I love the whys and hows. For me, they open doors to share God’s love with people.

A smile and polite gesture can go a long way. It’s good to talk with others about your life. By being kind a safe space is created and the floor is open to speak with one another.

A lot of people strive for greatness, wealth and power, but the greatest thing to be, for not only yourself but others around you, is kind. The world needs more of it.
