California Baptist University has unveiled a new grant for graduates wishing to pursue advanced degrees at CBU.

The Lancer Loyalty Graduate School Grant is a scholarship that provides students with $500 to $3,000 to continue their education and is determined by their academic merit, their educational path and their financial need.

Taylor Neece, director of Undergraduate Admissions and former director of Graduate Admissions, expressed his excitement the new scholarship is available to students.

“We are excited about the Lancer Loyalty Graduate School Grant because it’s a way to appreciate our alumni and encourage them to consider furthering their education with one of our many graduate programs,” Neece said.

In order to receive the scholarship, students must have received a bachelor’s degree from CBU and be accepted into an eligible graduate program. Online and Professional Studies programs are not eligible.

Students who meet the criteria automatically receive the scholarship in the minimum amount of $500. Any additional funding depends on the student’s academic merit and financial need. The student must then enroll into at least five units a semester in order to maintain the scholarship and do so within two weeks of awarding.

While students have not been notified of the scholarship, it is a pleasant surprise when they check to see their financial aid award.

Lauren Ross, 2014 alumna, is continuing at CBU, pursuing a master’s in school counseling. She is receiving the scholarship this year, although she was initially unaware of it.

“I knew nothing about it,” Ross said. “I looked in my financial aid account and I noticed it. I had to look up what it was about.”
