The women’s basketball team holds an undefeated ranking in the PacWest Conference this season and is ranked No. 8 in the NCAA Division II polls.
The 24-2 Lancers possess a 20-game winning streak starting with a 91-73 home victory Nov. 17 against California State University, San Bernardino.
Their most recent win was a Feb. 4 victory against Brigham Young University, Hawaii. Jarrod Olson, head coach of the women’s basketball team, said it is nice to be ranked in top-10 for NCAA Div. II.
“We will focus on our ranking at the end of the season,” Olson said. “The women feel proud of the season we have so far.”
Olson said his favorite part of the season is showing up every day and spending quality time with the players.
“I’m trying to value my time on the team,” Olson said. “The women’s favorite part this season is beating Azusa Pacific.”
Olson said his goal is to make the most of his team this season.
“We have a great group of seniors this year,” Olson said. “My job is to put us in the best position possible.”
Kamille Diaz, senior sociology major and guard, said she does not like to look at rankings until later in the season.
“It’s cool, but there is still a lot of work to be done,” Diaz said. “The season will work itself out in the end.”
Diaz said her favorite part of the season is spending time with the seniors on the team.
“As seniors, we are trying to enjoy the last year on the team,” Diaz said. “I also enjoy the winning streak we have and we’re just enjoying every game.”
Diaz explained her goal as a player is to finish strong.
“One goal that I have is to win the PacWest Conference Championship,” Diaz said. “With that we’ll be able to play in the NCAA Tournament.”
Olson will continue to lead the team through a successful season run. He, along with the women’s team, said he has high hopes of maintaining the NCAA D-II top-10 ranking.
The Lancers will be on the road for their next game Feb. 11 at 4 p.m. against Dixie State University in St.George, Utah.
If the team continues its winning streak, CBU Lancers will get another chance to compete at the PacWest Conference, March 2-4 in Irvine, Calif.
