The California Baptist University women’s water polo team had the busiest week of their season March 10-14, but that did not prevent them from dominating all of their games.
The Lancers went 3-0 during the week and 4-0 at the Lancer Invite, extending their winning streak to seven. The team who had been struggling against top-ranked Division I opponents has finally hit its stride.
The Lancers outscored their opponents 85-27 in this seven-game span as they continued to ride their dominant streak into the dog days of the season. The Lancer Invite showed how good they can be, as the women won every game by double digits.
Jessica Castellano, sophomore communication studies major and 2-meter defense player, who had two goals against Chapman University, said she was excited about how her team played during the long span of games.
“We really just took it one game at a time,” Castellano said. “It really helped us avoid getting overwhelmed by the intense amount of games we had this week. It was nice to go 7-0 this week.”
Jonathan Miller, head coach of the women’s water polo team, said there are many benefits of getting up early in these kinds of games.
“We’ve been working really hard on trying to come out focused early in games,” Miller said. “The last few days, we’ve really been able to have really good first quarters and really good second quarters.”
The Lancers looked to extend their win streak at the Loyola Marymount University Zumo Invite March 21-22, finishing the tournament by moving their overall record to 15-10.
