CBU holds supermoon viewing party on Front Lawn
Approximately every 30 years or so, a lunar event occurs called a supermoon. The moon orbits the earth and is sometimes closer and sometimes farther away.
When there is a full moon at its closest point to the earth, a supermoon lunar eclipse occurs. CBU will be celebrating this event Sept. 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. on the Front Lawn. Students can bring a chair or a towel and prepare to watch the lunar eclipse.
Monthly colloquium presents guest speaker in spinal cord injury
Kathia Cordero-Cabán will be speaking at the Department of Natural and Math Sciences Colloquium Sept. 29 from 4 to 5 p.m. in Room 104 of the Business Building.
Her topic, titled “Neuroprotective Effects of Dietary Vitamin E and Omega-3 Fatty Acids Following Traumatic Spinal Cord Injury,” is based on her research interests of the field of spinal cord injury.
She is currently doing her graduate work and her pursuing her doctorate at Loma Linda University’s School of Medicine.
Leadership seminar series continues with gender topics
The newest installment of the Leadership Seminar Series, called “Leading Gender and Generational Differences,” will be held in Innovator’s Auditorium Oct. 5 from 7 to 8 p.m.
The panel will be discussing topics related to both gender and generational differences in the work field.
Possible challenges and opportunities that one can experience in such a varied environment will also be explored.
Career Center offers mock interviews for students
Students who are interested in honing their interviewing skills may be interested in Mock Interviews, prepared by the Career Center to begin on Monday, Oct. 5. Juniors and seniors of any major are available to apply. If interested, contact the Career Center to set up an appointment and begin preparing for a future career.
Recreation Center hosts Men’s Night
The Recreation Center will also be hosting Men’s Night event for male students only at CBU Oct. 8 from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Rec Sports, Residence Life, the Associated Students of CBU, Provider and the Office of Spiritual Life will be joining with the Recreation Center to create a night with the theme of “strength and valor” for the men participating.
Mobilization opens applications for ISP and USP
Students interested in ministry may be interested in applying for California Baptist University’s International Service Projects or United States Projects.
Applications for the missions, which run for three weeks and 10 days, respectively, are due to the Office of Mobilization by Oct. 10.
Students can also visit @cbu_mob on Instagram, repost the ISP and USP applications picture and tag the Office of Mobilization for a chance to win a free MOB Resolved T-shirt.
Program helps students train for 5K
Couch to 5K is designed to help students work on their endurance in preparation for participation in a 5K.
During every Thursday starting Sept. 17 and running until Nov. 5, students can meet at the Recreation Center from 6 to 7 p.m. and exercise, jog or walk together with the facilitation of a personal trainer.
All runners are encouraged to participate in the Mission Inn 5K Nov. 8, but two participants with consistent attendance will have their entrance fees covered.
