California Baptist University gives plenty of opportunities for students to get involved in leadership positions on campus. These opportunities include Admissions (Host or Intern), First-Year Orientation and Christian University Success (FOCUS) Leaders, Resident Advisors, International Student Assistants, Community Life (CAB) Coordinators and Spiritual Life Interns.
Admissions Hosts maintain a room that is decorated and presentable for campus visitors to review. They should be prepared to accomodate 1 to 3 overnight guests when necessary. They should be available to accompany prospective students to meals and events around campus as well as introduce them to faculty, staff and students.
Admissions Interns have an interest in sharing their school experiences with prospective students or possibly working in an admissions office after graduation. Responsibilities include frequently representing CBU at local high school college fairs and information sessions, office work, giving campus tours and helping professional staff with file analysis and other necessary office procedures.
FOCUS leaders, in teams of two, help guide new freshmen students transition to University life and the CBU community. FOCUS leaders help plan and carry out the fall New Student Orientation. They meet weekly with their groups to learn, fellowship and have fun with their students.
Resident Advisors build communities within their living areas by planning monthly events for their residents and help their staff plan a monthly event for the entire living area. Each R.A. has one night a week when they are “On-Duty”, on which they sit in “The Box” from 7 p.m. – 12 a.m. During this time they are available to help in any way possible. An R.A. must also uphold campus policy by documenting students who do not obey campus rules.
“Being able to pour into their lives as well as live life among them, grow with them and challenge them was a huge part of the desire I had to apply,” Kelly Leonard, junior and liberal studies major, said.
International Student Assistants establish relationships with international students, lead activities and events for International Student Orientation and help assist in the planning of international student programming. They also have weekly contacts with specific international students.
CAB Coordinators make up the Campus Activities Board, which consists of nine different coordinators such as Coffeehouse, Commuter Programs, Crazies, Cultural Arts, Recreational Sports, Outdoor Adventures, Off-Campus Adventures, Special Events and Marketing Coordinators. They help with recreational activities for on-and-off campus. Some of these activities include coffee houses and intramural sports, such as the Fortuna Bowl.
“My favorite part of being a member of CAB are the relationships I have made with my co-workers and bosses. The entire staff becomes like family, and are very encouraging and supportive. Which helps us make fun and impactful events for the campus,” Christopher Cox, junior and marketing major, said.
Within the Office of Spiritual Life there are four different internship positions including Chapel Worship, Compassions Ministry, Mobilization and Christian Challenge Interns.
Spiritual Life Interns assist the Office of Spiritual Life. The Chapel Worship intern leads worship and organizes the Chapel Worship Band. Compassions Ministry interns help coordinate, promote, assist and resource the ministries around campus, as well as Urban Plunge and Urban Excursion.
Mobilization interns mobilize students to participate in ISP and USP by developing new strategies. Christian Challenge interns organize and maintain Christian Challenge small groups.

The application is two pages and is filled with contact information and questions about yourself, your walk with Christ, as well as your leadership experience and your other commitments.
Along with the application you will need to find two professional references. The type of position you are applying for determines what kind of references you will need. A supplemental application must be filled out as well. After the application process comes an interview.
Leadership applications are due Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 9 a.m.
