The Nintendo Switch, the first handheld gaming console, created a buzz of interest for gamers in the Riverside area during its release March 3.
The official website says the Nintendo Switch allows people to play their favorite games anytime, anywhere. However, there are mixed reviews about the console’s game selection.
Daniel Carey, sophomore civil engineering major, follows video games closely and said he disagrees with Nintendo’s claim.
“The Nintendo Switch doesn’t have a big line-up of games,” Carey said. “Zelda is the only big game.”
Others were more enthusiastic of the product. On the release date, more than 35 people lined up at the Game Stop on Tyler Street to purchase the system, some of whom were also waiting to buy the newly launched “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.”
Jessica Castellano, senior communications studies and photography double major, woke up at 5:45 a.m. and was determined to get a console.
“I’m a die-hard Zelda fan,” she said, “I’m on the water polo team and I had work that day, so I sent 12 friends a schedule so they could wait in line for me.”
Despite the mixed reviews, Nintendo retains its avid fanbase determined to stay loyal.
