California Baptist University hosted Jazz Night Under the Stars at Lancer Plaza, bringing students together for an evening of live music, conversation and time with friends.
Students gathered around tables and throughout the plaza as jazz music created a relaxed atmosphere on campus.
Joanna Aguiluz, commuter and freshman sports performance psychology and Christian studies double major, attended Jazz Night as her first campus event.
“I think I’m excited, I feel like as commuters it’s hard to stay connected here, so I wanna meet new people and have fun,” Aguiluz said.
Campus events can give commuter students opportunities to spend more time at CBU outside the classroom and experience another side of campus life.
Amanda Lim, freshman pre-nursing major, attended Jazz Night after spending much of her week focused on academics.
“I’ve mostly been at school all day, so today I have a free day to hang out with friends, meet new people, and get more connected to the CBU community,” Lim said.
Lim’s experience reflected the balance students often navigate between academics, responsibilities and opportunities to spend time with others.
Brian Atsma, senior architecture major and community life student worker, shared his perspective on the event and its place on campus.
“I think CBU hosting this new event was definitely an amazing opportunity to really bring the community on campus together. It was a great turnout, and we will be hosting more live music events here at Lancer Plaza,” Atsma said.
Jazz Night Under the Stars gave students a chance to enjoy live music and spend time together outside the classroom. As the semester continues, events like Jazz Night can provide another way for students to connect with the CBU community and enjoy campus beyond their academic routines.
