California Baptist University hosted its annual Parent and Family Weekend on Nov. 15-16, inviting families to campus for activities, memorable experiences, and opportunities to connect with their student’s college life.
The event ran from Friday through Saturday, with Saturday night’s main attraction, the Fortuna Bowl. The front lawn was lined with food trucks and set up stadium-style as the flag football finalists competed for the championship.
Maria Luiza Silva, freshman film major, reflected on the significance of the weekend as an international student.
“I think for me as an international student it’s important for me to have this experience of college life in an American college,” Silva said.
The weekend highlighted the vibrant campus community and gave families a deeper understanding of student life at CBU. Parents participated in campus tours, academic showcases, sporting events, and social gatherings.
Tate Singleton, freshman computer science and Christian studies double major, shared his perspective on the importance of the weekend.
“Parents and Family Weekend is so important because it just gives parents an opportunity to see the place that their kids go every single day and do life, and I think that that’s very special,” Singleton said.
In addition to social activities, families attended informational sessions about campus resources, academic support, and career development. These sessions offered insights into the support available to students during their time at CBU.
Luke Horian, senior mechanical engineering major and student worker for Safety Services, worked the event for the first time and emphasized the importance of his team’s presence.
“Just making sure there’s nobody here that’s not supposed to be, and making sure everyone is getting along and there’s no drama or danger,” Horian said.
The weekend ended with a fireworks finale following the Fortuna Bowl men’s team Twinkle Toes’ victory. Students and families gathered on the front lawn to watch the show.
Parent and Family Weekend remains a cherished tradition at California Baptist University, allowing families to engage in their student’s collegiate journey while strengthening the bond between home and campus life.
