Diouf makes consecutive three-peat on earning award from PacWest.

Dominating the court this season as a powerhouse, Kalidou Diouf, senior journalism & new media major and center for the men’s basketball team at California Baptist University, has received recognition and reached career milestones.

Diouf has recently picked up the PacWest Defender of the Week Award for three weeks in a row for the weeks of Jan. 29, Feb. 5 and Feb. 12.

Diouf also scored a season-high 35 points in the Lancers’ 95-82 home win against Academy of Art University Feb. 5. He is also currently holding a career-high of 1,163 points.

Individually, Diouf is ranked 91st in points per game, 47th in rebounds per game, 33rd in defensive rebounds per game with 6.91 and seventh in field-goal percentage with 66.5 in the NCAA Division II.

Diouf said it feels good to win this defender honor three consecutive times.

“I have been working on being a better defender,” Diouf said. “It is a huge part of my work and this award is a testimony to my work.”

While he is currently excelling, Diouf said he still has areas he can improve.

“I’m still trying to work on my outside game,” Diouf said. “I still have to work on my jump shot. I’m not a bad player but I feel I can improve.”

Although he is a senior, Diouf said he still has goals he hopes to achieve by the end of the season.

“I’m trying to win a national championship,” Diouf said. “This team is a special group of men and I believe we have a chance to go all the way.”

Rick Croy, head coach of CBU men’s basketball, said Diouf’s honor is well-deserved.

“Kali is a very consistent competitor and is very deserving of this award,” Croy said. “He brings leadership, great experience, confidence, poise and an intense desire to win.”

Croy also mentioned his hopes for Diouf.

“My hope is he can achieve his goal to finish strong this season,” Croy said.

Diouf and the rest of the men’s basketball team hopes to continue this season and finish out the season in a strong way.

The Lancers will be in action again Feb. 17 on the road against Fresno Pacific University at 4:30 p.m. The Lancers also have three more regular season games.
