As students are settling in to a new semester at California Baptist University, friends are being made, books are being bought and a wave of new changes are coming to the CBU campus.
Some of the most noticeable changes are the new food options added to the campus, as well as updates made to student meal plans.
This semester, CBU is welcoming Chick-fil-A and El Monte Grill to the campus as the newest food service additions.
Brisco’s Village Cafe is also serving breakfast at a fairly decent price. Options will vary from French toast and sausage to fresh fruit and juice.
“I wish we had a lot more food options,” said Dominique Johnson, junior criminal justice major. “I love Chick-fil-A, so I’m definitely excited. I can get my waffle fries whenever I’m around now.”
The dining additions are trailed by a handful of changes to the meal plan program.
Last year, the meal plan included a certain number of
“swipes,” which allowed for students to receive a combo meal per swipe at a dining service location of choice.
Those dining locations included the Alumni Dining Commons, Brisco’s and Subway.
This semester, Chick-fil-A and El Monte Grill will be added to the student meal plan, but Subway will no longer be an option.
While Subway will still be open, it will no longer be covered under CBU’s meal plan.
One exciting change to the meal plan will be the implementation of Lancer Bucks and Dining Dollars.
Dining Dollars allow students to purchase smaller amounts of food, as opposed to being required to order full meals at a time.
The dollars also allow students to spend money buying food for other people without using their swipes.
“This year instead of guest meals, we’ve taken that percentage (of guest meals) and converted it to Dining Dollars,” said Joe Adcock, assistant dean of students.
“You can still use (that percentage) for guests, but you can now use it for just a Coke at Wanda’s or a shake at Chick- fil-A,” he continued.
Lancer Bucks is another adjustment that allows students to use their CBU ID cards to make purchases on campus as
opposed to cash or debit cards. The Campus Store and the Community Life Office also accept Lancer Bucks.
“The fact that they got rid of the ‘guest swipes’ and replaced them with Lancer Bucks (and Dining Dollars) is a great idea,” said commuting student Gavin Crews, junior Christian studies major. “I believe the new meal plan will benefit all students, both commuters and residents.”
