California Baptist University is currently in the process of constructing a larger Campus Store, which will be located in Lancer Plaza, equipped with a new student lounge.
The new Campus Store will replace the current one located in the west side of the Billie and Eugene Yeager Center.
“We need to make sure we comb through all (the plans) to make sure we get everything we want,” said Robert Gurrola, project manager for facilities and planning at CBU.
Gurrola is in charge of overseeing the construction of the new store.
The lounge will also host a small kitchen where students will be able to select grab-and-go items during store hours. The space will allow students to have a relaxing area to study, eat and socialize with one another.
“When it comes to studying and relaxing, I like to meet in inviting and comfortable spaces where I can have a conversation or read a book and won’t feel out of place to do so,” said Rebecca Malama, senior Christian behavioral science major.
Gurrola explained that the lounge will contain a fireplace for students to use along with furniture that will adorn the space.
Malama, along with other students, said she is excited about the new lounge and what it has to offer.
“I think the new lounge is a great idea and can’t wait to see it and use it,” she said.
Currently, the concrete and inside framing has just begun for the building of the new Campus Store. Gurrola said that Balfour Beatty Construction is the company in charge of creating the new student space.
Once open, students will be able to purchase books, goods and enjoy the new space. The store is set to open May 2014, or sooner if construction goes well.
