Since the opening of the California Baptist University Recreational Center on Jan. 14, many students have been taking advantage of the new facility by finding time in their busy schedules to go and workout.

The Rec Center offers numerous fitness classes for students to take advantage of during the week. Earlier this week, Community Life hosted an all-girl Zumba workout hosted on the roof of the Rec Center.

The turnout for the event was large, as many students showed up for a fun night of fitness, while dancing along to enjoyable music.

“The Zumba night really got me moving without realizing that I was working out,” said Jamie Gosney, sophomore liberal studies major. “It was a lot of fun and I want to do it again.”

Zumba is designed to help those who wish to lose weight and get in shape by doing so in the way of aerobics mixed with different dancing styles such as hip-hop, salsa, merengue and many others.

“I thought it was really interesting how it was on the roof, the instructor was awesome,” said Alaina Egger, sophomore kinesiology major.

The Zumba event was not only a great way for those who wanted to burn a few calories and get in shape but it was also an enjoyable night where many women could get together to enjoy a night of fitness and bonding.
